Note: A large number of researchers from several different areas of science are discovering some really amazing things about what we human beings are made of, how we tick, what creates our reality, and how we can change it for the better. Not surprisingly, spiritual teachers for thousands of years have taught us to accept these things by faith. The human race has come a long way. The best compilation of all this work that I've found so far is in the book "The Power of Intention" by Dr. Wayne Dyer. My (Anne Milligan)intention for this article is to summarize the "power of intention" as it applies to your capacity for therapeutic change. ![]() You already have an advantage in reading this article about the power of intention, because you are ready for change. Hardly anyone comes to a therapy website if their mind is not set on change. So good for you! The desire for change is the first essential step along the way of making something new happen in your life. Taking a step to look for help is the next step. So really you are two steps ahead already! Here are the essentials of the "power of intention" and how it leads to change: Your thoughts create the reality of your existence. If you want to know your deepest beliefs about yourself, just look at your life right now. Everything in your life right now, you have somehow drawn to yourself based on your thoughts. This is now a proven scientific reality. The good news is that you can change your thoughts. You can get to the truth of who you are and why you are here. You can live a deeply fulfilled life that does not FORCE others to conform to your reality, but rather changes because YOU CHANGE. Intention is the most powerful force in the universe. Your thoughts arise from the deepest beliefs you have about yourself. Change your thoughts, then you can change your life. I want you to conduct an experiment with yourself this day. I want you to stop right now, take ten deep, easy breaths, and then say to yourself one of the following positive personal statements: "I intend for this day to be good". "I feel good". "At the end of this day, I will feel happier than I was when ths day started". Pick one statement, the one that feels most right to you, focus your mind on that thought, keep your mind focused on that thought for a few minutes. Several times today, when you have a few minutes aside without distraction, repeat this exercize. Did you know that positive thoughts create chemical and electrical reactions in your brain that send out waves of energy that actually draw your intentions to you? This is now a scientically proven reality. Try it for yourself. ![]() You can grow in your ability to re-create your reality through mindfulness meditation. There are several steps along the way that are proven to help you FOCUS your intention and draw good things into your life. For this reason, I created in 2008 a practice CD that incorporates the power of intention exercizes. I will say that the feedback from daily users of this CD has been phonomenal. I will be out with a follow-up CD to the original one in 2010.
