The Unmothered Child: Re-Creating a Safe Haven For Life's Hurts

This Journey Workbook and guided meditation tapes are specifically designed for the adult woman who was unmothered in childhood due to death, divorce, emotional abandonment or physical absence on the part of the mother. "The Unmothered Child" was created originally as a series of healing workshops in 1996 by Anne Milligan. Anne Milligan is a Licensed Therapist with 20 years of experience creating healing forums for issues of loss. For more information about Anne Milligan, CLICK HERE

The times in which we live are both exciting and tumultuous. Global transformations are rapidly taking place. Will the essential feminine values of interiority, nurturance, relationship, sensitivity, and a deep respect for history survive the onslaught of global mechanization and immense displacement? Adult women who harbor an unmothered inner child experience the depersonalization and rootless displacement of our times most acutely. Images which belong to the inner world are externalized to an overwhelming degree through media advertising, pulling us outward and busying our lives with motives which have very little to do with claiming our ground in the feminine world of the soul. In personal relationships, the wounded and unmothered inner child collapses very easily if not attended to.

At the same time, women who were unmothered in childhood often display a capacity for internal wisdom, creativity, self-containment, and healing that is often extraordinary. The workbook and guided meditations draw upon these “gifts” to heal our inner selves and invite us into a richer engagement in life, love, and relationships.

The following is some feedback received from women who have participated in this healing work via a series of workshops, or by using the Journey Workbook and guided meditations on their own:

“Your special program “The Unmothered Child” is invaluable to me on my journey to self-discovery and healing of my spirit. Thank you for your gifts of direction, wisdom, love and compassion. They will remain in my heart and in my memory forever.”

“…Through the meditations we did in the workshop I was able to feel a sense of the presence of my mother - something I had never been able to do. I think her death when I was 7 & ½ affected my family so profoundly that I blocked out all memories of her…That brief moment in the meditation was the first time I was able to feel her presence in almost 40 years…”

“Anne’s class was a lesson of forgiveness. I had not forgiven my mother for dying and leaving me alone feeling abandoned. Forty years later all the feelings began to surface. I needed help. Anne helped.”

Some Questions to Ponder for the Woman Who Lost Her Mother in Childhood

1.
Do you feel your life has been in some ways ruled by the mother loss issue?
2.
Were you parented primarily by your father?
3.
What were the family "rules" about how you grieved (or didn't grieve) the loss?
4.
Do you at times feel like a feather in the wind, being thrust here and there by the emotional impact of real or imagined rejection?
5.
Do you find yourself with an "ache in your heart" which stays with you all the time? Do you at times feel like an orphan, longing for a home?
6.
What is the most consistent theme in your dreams?
7.
What is the actual date of your mother's departure? If she died on that date, do you experience "anniversary grief" reactions when the day comes around each year?
